PAD Day 2: Pardon My Politics

Today's dual prompts from Poetic Asides and NaPoWriMo: (1) Write a "best" and/or "worst" poem, and (2) write a poem that uses unanswered questions. So here is today's political/environmental message:

The Worst

What's the worst that could happen - indeed, what's the worst,
when  climate scientists who all are well-versed
tell us already our planet is cursed,
that soon all the ice caps will have us immersed?
But our leader who's richer than old William Hearst,
with an ego so big that some day he might burst,
shouts "Fake News!" and "Coal!" and "America First!"
What's the worst that could happen - indeed, what's the worst?

Bruce: excellent use of the mono rhyme ... it wasn't distracting at all, as sometimes monorhyme can be. All right! —V.
